Leaving Lima

Leaving Lima

I started the day leaving the hostel at around 6am. Even at this time it was busy in Lima! I negotiated people and traffic for about 3 hours traveling at a very relaxed pace frequently changing from road to footpath. I was warned to turn onto the Americana Expressway because if i missed it I would end up in a shanty town run by gangs. With this motivation behind me I think I may have asked about 20 people how far till I turn.

Once on the American Expressway traffic remained heavy but dwindled off the further out of Lima I got. I could see glimpses of the coastline as I traveled south.

I stopped for lunch at a little roadside restaurant and had an amazing seafood fried rice. I continued on for the next few hours watching the landscape become more and more barren. I quickly became surrounded by huge dirt hills everywhere and a few rather large dogs looked like they would have a go but thankfully decided not to.

I eventually arrived at the turn off to the small fishing town of Pucasana I traveled down this road for around 10km. It was very dusty and baron and I was definitely questioning if I had gone the right way. As I continued, it eventually opened up with a beautiful view to the ocean with hundreds of fishing boats littering the bay.

I rolled down the hill towards the shore where I was directed by some locals that to get to my hostel I needed to take a winding dirt road back up the hill. After pushing the 50kg bike the last bit of the hill I was greeted with a spectacular view and some very welcoming owners.

From there I made my way down to the shore for some fresh seafood and I’m looking forward to a good nights sleep before tomorrows adventures.

I'm not normally one to post pictures of my food but this fresh fish was amazing!!
